Job Description:

Senior CAD Designer for new product innovation and current product continuous improvement activities.  Will work independently and under the guidance of senior engineering staff and industrial design staff.  Previous high volume consumer product or action sports equipment experience desired.  Design experience should include: plastic injection molded component, converting, die-cutting, and soft goods manufacturing.  Environmental robustness, acoustics, and/or waterproof equipment design experience and awareness of state-of-the-art design and manufacturing technologies desirable.  Must be able to generate complex surfaces, detail and assembly drawings in Solidworks.

Primary responsibilities will be to coordinate/collaborate with engineers to create new and/or modify existing technical drawings that communicate engineering ideas, designs, and information in support of engineering functions. Verify information provided is accurately represented and all industry standard drafting standards are met. Candidate may have to supervise other drafters and engineers on large drawing projects to ensure consistency and cohesiveness throughout all engineering packages. Drawings consist of parts and assemblies including sectional profiles, irregular or reverse curves, hidden lines, and small or intricate details.

The successful candidate for this position must have a high degree of personal motivation, initiative, intellectual curiosity, and solid communication skills.  Should be detail oriented and well organized.  Must be comfortable working in a fast growth, entrepreneurial environment.

Experience and Skills:

• CAD Design: Using best engineering practices, design parts and assemblies in SolidWorks for Plastic Injection Molded parts and converted/die cut materials. • Documentation: Produce CAD drawings from self-generated or existing models to ISO/ANSI/ASME, departmental, and discipline standards. • Drawing Check: Perform drawing checking function for other Engineers/CAD Designers. • Design Review: Participate in engineering and manufacturing design reviews to evaluate design concepts and make recommendations. • Comprehension: Ability to read and understand 2D drawings. CORE COMPETENCIES AND QUALIFICATIONS • Proficient with CAD (SolidWorks). • Capable of making and checking detail and layout drawings. • Experience with injection molding and materials converting. • Strong communication skills – both verbal and written. • Verbal and writing proficiency in English. • Team player requiring minimal supervision. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE High School education or equivalent required; Associates Degree or higher in engineering or technical field a plus. Position requires a minimum of seven (7) years experience in new product development. Production or manufacturing engineering experience a plus. Must be a creative problem solver able to demonstrate a history of personal initiative, and have the ability to work in early stage cross-functional teams, with strong communication skills. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS • Must have visual acuity (corrected) necessary to read engineering documents. • Must be able to lift and transport equipment weighing approximately 30 pounds. • Verbal and writing proficiency in English. • Good hand / eye coordination. • Full range of motion in upper body.
